POEMS FOR STRANGERS POEMS FOR STRANGERS POEMS FOR STRANGERS

for the love of conversation & connection

You may occasionally catch me at a Melbourne market writing poems for strangers on my Olivetti Lettura typewriter, on any topic desired.

HOW IT WORKS

I begin with asking for a prompt — any topic at all, surface-level or deep. From here, I may ask some follow-up questions, then I take about a minute to write the poem on my typewriter. Typos may occur, which can be blotted out; all part of the charm of working with a nostalgic machine which brings forward the slowness and presence missing in today’s digital age.

The prompt for this poem was: trees.

The prompt: confidence.

The prompt: two daughters turning 13.

The prompt: the owner’s greyhound.

The prompt: author Mary Shelley
