VOLVELLE
Includes a volvelle: a paper instrument and DIY activity.
A volvelle is a paper instrument commonly used in the past to calculate moon phases and the positions of the sun and stars. This book’s volvelle is designed to guide a reader to various sections that are linked to, or explore, that particular manifestation query or curiosity through the writer’s eyes.
The Manifestation Diaries blends creative prose with thoughtful reflections and various steps and methods explored by writer Kimberley Wenya. It is an ode to a youthful period of pursuing dreams and desires in the midst of philosophical and existential query.

I really wanted to be happy with what I released, so I spent over two and a half years writing, designing and producing this book. It is a self-published piece!

I love paper crafts and secret things. I loved the idea of having a secret paper instrument at the back of the book. I longed for a modern, working composition of this lost art that filled medieval books and thought, Why not include one in mine? Inspired by the Astronomicum Caesareum from the 1540s, the alethiometer in His Dark Materials, the clock thing in Lara Croft (2001), the spinning map in Pirates of the Caribbean (the one with Chow Yun-fat).

Yes! I drew and mapped it out myself using a compass (I guess maths class in Year 9 was helpful after all), ruler, protractor, pencil and mini reporter’s notebook.

No, I wanted to write just one book on manifestation, and have this be it. So I haven’t ‘saved’ things for ‘the next book’. Perhaps my next venture will be fiction? Poetry? TV guide articles??
